Blogging the Psalms: The Perfect Worshiper

Who is the perfect worshiper of the Lord? Who is worthy of standing before Him?

O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent?
Who shall dwell on your holy hill?

He who walks blamelessly and does what is right
and speaks truth in his heart;
who does not slander with his tongue
and does no evil to his neighbor,
nor takes up a reproach against his friend;
in whose eyes a vile person is despised,
but who honors those who fear the Lord;
who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
who does not put out his money at interest
and does not take a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things shall never be moved.

Psalm 15:1-5

The one who is worthy to stand before the Lord is the one who has unimpeachable integrity.

  • He walks blamelessly and does what is right (even when it’s hard).
  • He tells the truth.
  • He does not speak evil.
  • He truly loves his neighbor and lets love cover a multitude of sins.
  • He hates what God hates, and loves what God loves.
  • He is not a lover of money, but a lover of justice.
  • He always keeps his word.

Who is the perfect worshiper? Who consistently, perfectly does all of these things?

It’s definitely not me. I can’t seem to go a single day without saying something sinfully stupid.

There is only one perfect worshiper. There’s only one who is truly worthy to stand before the Lord.

Jesus

He already stands before the Father in righteousness. He stands before Him as my advocate.

He will not be moved.

And He wants to make me like Him. Not because I am perfect, but because He is.
