Preaching Goofs

Last year I was preaching through Genesis 18 in Gladstone, I was reading the text and lost my place for a second. Then I completely blanked out. For what felt like 30 seconds. I don’t even know what was going on there, but it was a pretty humbling experience. It’s nice to see that even guys who are considered “great” preachers punt every once in a while, too:

Aaron, I know your pain.  I did the exact same thing.  When I first started preaching, I went from a manuscript and lost my place.  If I could remember exactly what sermon it was, I could go back and time how long of a pause it was, because I think it’s on our church website, but it was considerable.  Very awkward and humbling.  But to this day, even on that day, not one person mentioned it.  My hope is that there was enough substance when I was actually talking that they just didn’t notice.
