I don’t see any punch tab here. I would love to win them. I will come back to see if the punch tab is install on this. I love your Awaiting A Savior and it is a wonderful book. I have that as e-book and do want others to read that wonderful book. I can’t wait to read Contend too.

I know that the Lord is teaching me to be more humble and to be patience in the midst of trials too. The Lord is so good and I do have so much to be thankful for.

I have been learning to wait this year. I started out 2012 eager to move to Papua New Guinea and teach at a school for missionary kids for the 2012-2013 school year. Now, at the end of 2012, I am still in Fort Wayne, Indiana, teaching at a public high school (and loving it!), while slowly raising support to move overseas. In a way, it has seemed as if my dreams were crushed against the rocks of financial inability, but in so doing, my faith has bloomed, knowing that God is in control and God is always good, even when His plans are not what I thought they were.

God has been teaching me to trust him this year. 2012 is ending in a way that I never expected in the beginning of the year. Trusting him as we march on to 2013.

God has been teaching me about what it means to be in the body of Christ – that is, how it’s expressed through community; Community that is Spirit-empowered, culturally subversive, and actively seeks to include those on the fringes for whatever reason; Community that is accepting of people -where they are- but also seeks their sanctification, and above all is centered in and around Christ.

  • JCP

I am learning to spend more time, energy and focus on following God than avoiding evil.

  • Kevin Fiske

I have learned in a number of ways, being into my second year of marriage and first year as a father, how selfish I truly am. The Lord is patient, and by his grace, I’m learning to put myself aside for the glory of God and the good of my wife and son.

    • Corey

Amen. These are lessons that I too am learning this year. 3rd year of marriage with a 6 month old right now. Praise God for His faithfulness.

  • Persis

God has been teaching me to trust Him based on His character and promises as revealed in His Word, not based on my circumstances or feelings.

  • Ben Thorp

I feel a bit guilty entering, as I already own copies of 4 of these books. But I promise to give them away!

This year has mostly been about getting back into the Word for me, and understanding again the power of the Bible in my life. That, and the need to arrange our lives around God, rather than trying to fit him into it.

2012 has been a true year of growing. The most recent lesson came soon after my wife and I found out she was pregnant. For some time before then, I had been struggling with the truth that God loves me deeply. My wife shared with me the good news of our pregnancy while on vacation at the beach this fall. That next morning, I went for a swim in the ocean and It was there, while standing and looking out at the vastness of the ocean that the Lord gently reminded me of this. He is just as much in charge of the vastness of the ocean as He is the knitting together of my child in my wife’s womb. In that moment, the struggle with His love melted away. It was a wonderful reminder that not only is our God great, sovereign, and worthy of glory but also intimately involved in our lives.

  • http://www.pouredoutforchrist.com/ Jeff B

God has been teaching me about connections. It is not about how the church plugs you in but how you plug yourself into the church. Unless we all take the initiative to engage with each other inside the church and become involved in each others lives we will never become the community recognizable church that Christ intended!

I am learning to live more under the grace of God. I had been grounded in legalism for many of my early years as a believer and God is graciously bringing me out of that mindset. I am thankful for the many good solid teachers that God has raised up to direct me in the right direction…including my church leadership! It is great to see such a variety of authors in this list of give aways. Some are new to me and others are well known ‘friends’ that I will cherish even though I do not personally know them.

“… His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.” 2 Peter 1:3

The closer I draw towards God the more aware I am of my own sin. This can cause me to look around at others and notice their faults too or their seeming disinterest in growing spiritually or changing. But I need to concentrate on what God is doing in me instead of others. I love learning but this can give a false sense of growing spiritually, as this only happens when I put into practice what God is impressing on my heart.. Would love to win the books!

  • Corey

God has been teaching me that while I am learning and growing in my wisdom and knowledge of Him and His Word, I need to become more aware of my days, and that I need to simply follow in obedience one day at a time. This year God has been teaching me about being a better missionary in my neighborhood. I recognized that I didn’t know many of my neighbors and therefore have not had an opportunity to share the Gospel with any of them. So I’ve made a more concerted effort to meet and establish a rapport with some of them and praying for opportunities to share my faith.

God has been teaching me that I am needy. It is the needy that Christ responds to and I have lived in much pride of life–the very idea that I could live self-sufficiently…It’s not my stated theology, but I have been learning this year that it has been my practical theology and God in his matchless grace has been revealing to me that I am not my own answer.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned in 2012 is that God knows me and loves me. I grew up in the church, yet was convinced that, due to some dark events in my past, God couldn’t really love me or want me. I have spent the past 11 months meeting with my pastor and an elder and listening as they spoke the gospel into some of the darkest places in my heart. I have shed tears of joy, pain, relief, sorrow, and many other emotions as the truth of the gospel has begun to penetrate areas I thought were beyond redemption.

  • Michael Pratt

I’m learning that to impact lives I have to be willing to embrace a messy world, filled with messy lives, that short, one size fits all answers are not the answer. Love gets into those messy, ugly, I don’t know what to do next, places in life. Without Christ I will just add to the mess.

This year God has been teaching me humility and to not think so highly of myself. In January of this year, I moved from my home state of Texas to North Dakota. There are many jobs available here, so I was arrogant to believe that, given my education and experience, I would be offered a career-trajectory job quickly. Here it is 11 months later and I’m still working an entry-level retail job. God has graciously provided the whole way in terms of financial resources. He’s also led me to and through a realistic self-assessment.

After a move to join a church has ended miserably, I have had doubts about what God wants versus what I want. Did I misunderstand Him? Did I get out of His plan? God has been teaching me primarily about grace. About his relentless pursuit of me. About the fact that there’s nothing I have to do, because He’s already done everything for me. Understanding grace more deeply has brought me great freedom in my walk with God and relationships with others.
