Archives For Education

Really enjoying these discussion videos from the Gospel Coalition. In this video, Michael Horton and Richard Lints explain why it’s so important for Christians to study in non-Christian schools. Take a look:

Intriguing conversation between Colin Hansen and Phil Ryken about the lack of men pursuing higher education:

As I’ve written about recently, one of the great things about summer and vacations is that you have the opportunity to relax and maybe catch up on some reading. But it also offers an opportunity to study a special topic or two! One way to do this that I’d highly recommend is by signing up for Ligonier Connect.

Ligonier Connect offers you video-based teaching from R.C. Sproul in an online learning environment that allows you to learn at your own pace while engaging in meaningful discussion with your fellow learners. And because each lesson can be completed usually within an hour to an hour and a half, it’s not a huge time commitment!

Each course allows you to sign up either as an individual for $57 (gives you six months to complete the course), or you can sign up a group (min. 3 people) for $47 per person, so it’s actually pretty affordable.

A look at the Ligonier Connect learning environment

I’ve got 3 lessons to go on “Principles of Biblical Interpretation,” and I have to say, overall it’s been excellent. The content is outstanding and the feedback on answers from classmate has been hugely helpful and very encouraging. The one challenge I’ve found is that, because I’m signed up as an individual, I really have to push myself to be disciplined in finishing it well. This is largely because:

  1. I have a tendency to be very, very busy.
  2. I have no one really holding me accountable for getting it done besides me.

Fortunately, work has been very encouraging in me completing this program as it does offer a lot of practical benefit to them (there are some nice things about working for a Christian organization, in case you were wondering). Also, because it just got really hot again here in London, there’s little better than enjoying an icy beverage at Starbucks while digging into some very practical learning.

If you have the opportunity, I’d highly recommend investing some of your time this summer into a course through Ligonier Connect.

What, if any, study opportunities are you going to take advantage of this summer?
